Siemens Launches Next Generation PLC Programming Environment with ChatGPT

Siemens and Microsoft are also collaborating to develop code generation tools for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), which are industrial computers that control most machines in factories worldwide. ChatGPT will be used to generate PLC code through natural language input, which the company believes will help the maintenance team identify errors faster.

A new Teamcenter application for Microsoft Teams will be unveiled later this year, and service engineers will use it to record and report product design or quality issues using natural voice. This application can parse informal speeches to automatically create summary reports, and then send them to the appropriate team members. Employees can record their observations in the language they like, and then use Microsoft Azure AI to translate them into the company's official language.

Microsoft's generated artificial intelligence tool library includes artificial intelligence chat and code generation, which will be used to accelerate and simplify Siemens' design, engineering, manufacturing, and operational processes. The two companies plan to use artificial intelligence to enhance communication between Siemens teams, accelerate code writing, and help engineers complete their work faster.
